The two pictures present a striking contrast in family education. In the first one, a father lies on the sofa, absorbed in his mobile phone, while ordering his child to study. In the second, a father sits beside his child, reading a book together with him. The former scene shows empty commands, whereas the latter demonstrates shared effort.
The contrast reveals a simple truth: children learn more from what they see than from what they are told. When parents demand one standard of behavior but practice another, their words lose authority. A child who watches a parent playing with a phone may naturally imitate the behavior, even if he is asked to study. In this way, double standards make education ineffective.
Therefore, parents should lead by example instead of merely issuing orders. If they want their children to become diligent readers, they should first put down their phones and open a book themselves. Personal demonstration is not only the lowest-cost but also the most effective form of education.
