   The line chart illustrates the development of Chinese residents' health literacy from 2012 to 2021. The rate climbed steadily from 8.80% in 2012 to 25.40% in 2021, nearly tripling the initial level. Although the upward trend is clear, the overall level still remains modest, leaving room for improvement.
   
   Several factors account for this progress. First, popularization of health education in schools and communities has raised public awareness. Second, mass media and digital platforms have spread scientific knowledge widely. Third, improved primary medical services have strengthened prevention and guidance. Nevertheless, disparities between urban and rural areas, as well as among different age groups, still exist.
   
   In my view, health literacy is the first line of defense against disease. The government should allocate more resources to vulnerable groups, especially rural residents and the elderly, and strengthen health education. Only in this way can the benefits of health literacy be shared evenly.
