The bar chart illustrates a remarkable surge in China’s express delivery industry from 2018 to 2020. The total volume increased from 51 billion parcels to 64 billion and then to 83 billion, while the rural share rose from 12 billion to 15 billion and further to 30 billion, indicating that rural areas grew much faster than the national average.
Several factors account for this trend. First, the downward expansion of e-commerce has brought online shopping to county towns and villages. Second, the improvement of logistics networks has made delivery to remote areas more efficient and affordable. Third, the pandemic stimulated online consumption, especially in rural regions, where traditional shopping channels were less accessible.
In my view, express delivery effectively links production with consumption and supports economic vitality.
