Weighing yourself regularly is a wonderful way to stay aware of any significant weight fluctuations. __1__, when done too often, this habit can sometimes hurt more than it __2__.

As for me, weighing myself every day caused me to shift my focus from being generally healthy and physically active, to focusing __3__ on the scale. That was bad to my overall fitness goals. I had gained weight in the form of muscle mass, but thinking only of __4__ the number on the scale, I altered my training program. That conflicted with how I needed to train to __5__ my goals.

I also found that weighing myself daily did not provide an accurate __6__ of the hard work and progress I was making in the gym. It takes about three weeks to a month to notice significant changes in your weight __7__ altering your training program. The most __8__ changes will be observed in skill level, strength and inches lost.

For these __9__, I stopped weighing myself every day and switched to a bimonthly weighing schedule __10__. Since weight loss is not my goal, it is less important for me to __11__ my weight each week. Weighing every other week allows me to observe and __12__ any significant weight changes. That tells me whether I need to __13__ my training program.

I use my bimonthly weigh-in __14__ to get information about my nutrition as well. If my training intensity remains the same, but I’m constantly __15__ and dropping weight, this is a __16__ that I need to increase my daily caloric intake.

The __17__ to stop weighing myself every day has done wonders for my overall health, fitness and well-being. I’m experiencing increased zeal for working out since I no longer carry the burden of a __18__ morning weigh-in. I’ve also experienced greater success in achieving my specific fitness goals, __19__ I’m training according to those goals, not the numbers on a scale.

Rather than __20__ over the scale, turn your focus to how you look, feel, how your clothes fit and your overall energy level.

    • A. Besides
    • B. Therefore
    • C. Otherwise
    • D. However

helps与hurt构成“利弊”对举,符合“hurt more than it helps”的固定对照;cares、warns、reduces与hurt无法形成对称评价。

    • A. helps
    • B. cares
    • C. warns
    • D. reduces

    答案A

    • A. initially
    • B. solely
    • C. occasionally
    • D. formally

    • A. recording
    • B. lowering
    • C. explaining
    • D. accepting

lowering(降低)贴合“减数字”的执念。

    • A. modify
    • B. set
    • C. review
    • D. reach

    • A. definition
    • B. depiction
    • C. distribution
    • D. prediction

depiction(描绘、写照)符合“准确反映”之义。

    • A. due to
    • B. regardless of
    • C. aside from
    • D. along with

    答案A

regardless of表不论、aside from表除了、along with表伴随,都不能标明“因调整训练而产生”的因果关系。

    • A. orderly
    • B. rigid
    • C. precise
    • D. immediate

    • A. claims
    • B. judgments
    • C. reasons
    • D. methods

    • A. instead
    • B. though
    • C. again
    • D. indeed

    答案A

    • A. track
    • B. overlook
    • C. conceal
    • D. report

    答案A

track(跟踪、监测)与称重记录的目的一致。

    • A. depend on
    • B. approve of
    • C. hold onto
    • D. account for

depend on依赖、approve of赞成、hold onto抓住,语义均不接“体重变化”。

    • A. share
    • B. adjust
    • C. confirm
    • D. prepare

adjust(调整)与后文根据信息改计划一致。

    • A. results
    • B. features
    • C. rules
    • D. tests

    答案A

results(结果)即秤上读数带来的信息。

    • A. bored
    • B. anxious
    • C. hungry
    • D. sick

    • A. principle
    • B. secret
    • C. belief
    • D. sign

sign(迹象、信号)符合“据此判断营养”的用法。

    • A. request
    • B. necessity
    • C. decision
    • D. wish

    • A. disappointing
    • B. surprising
    • C. restricting
    • D. consuming

    答案A

    • A. if
    • B. unless
    • C. until
    • D. because

    • A. obsessing
    • B. dominating
    • C. puzzling
    • D. triumphing

    答案A

obsessing over(对……
