During the Tang Dynasty, peonies were widely planted in royal gardens and were hailed as the national flower, making them particularly fashionable. In the tenth century, the ancient city of Luoyang became the center of peony cultivation, a status it has maintained to this day. Now, tens of thousands of domestic tourists flock to Luoyang to attend the annual Peony Festival, to appreciate the unique beauty of Luoyang peonies and to explore the history of the ancient capital of nine dynasties.
