    • A. criticized
    • B. appointed
    • C. commented
    • D. designated

    答案D

    解析原文“declared a global epidemic… the first worldwide epidemic __ by WHO in 41 years”表明WHO正式认定/宣布该疫情为全球流行病。

    • A. proceeded
    • B. activated
    • C. followed
    • D. prompted

    答案C

    解析“The heightened alert __ an emergency meeting…” followed(紧随其后)准确表达时间先后。

    • A. digits
    • B. numbers
    • C. amounts
    • D. sums

    答案B

    解析“rising __ in Britain, Japan…”

    • A. moderate
    • B. normal
    • C. unusual
    • D. extreme

    答案A

解析Chan称疫情“__ in severity”,后文“overwhelming majority… mild symptoms and a full recovery”证明严重程度为中等、温和。moderate(温和、中等)契合。

    • A. with
    • B. in
    • C. from
    • D. by

    答案A

解析“__ the overwhelming majority of patients experiencing…” in/from/by无法构成此伴随说明。

    • A. progress
    • B. absence
    • C. presence
    • D. favor

    答案B

解析“a full recovery, often in the __ of any medical treatment”意为常在没有任何治疗的情况下康复。absence(缺乏、没有)构成in the absence of固定搭配。

    • A. reality
    • B. phenomenon
    • C. concept
    • D. notice

    答案D

解析“The outbreak came to global __ in late April”即疫情引起全球关注。notice(注意、关注)与come to搭配自然。

    • A. over
    • B. for
    • C. among
    • D. to

among(在……

    • A. stay up
    • B. crop up
    • C. fill up
    • D. cover up

    答案B

    解析墨西哥恐慌高峰时,“cases began to __ in New York…” crop up(突然出现)符合疫情扩散。stay up熬夜、fill up填满、cover up掩盖均与病例出现无关。

    • A. as
    • B. if
    • C. unless
    • D. until

    答案A

解析“new cases seemed to fade __ warmer weather arrived”天气变暖时新病例消退,as表示“随着”。

    • A. excessive
    • B. enormous
    • C. significant
    • D. magnificent

    答案C

解析“there was __ flu activity in almost every state”几乎各州都有明显流感活动。significant(显著的)程度恰当。

    • A. categories
    • B. examples
    • C. patterns
    • D. samples

    答案D

解析“virtually all the __ tested are the new swine flu”被检测的几乎全是新猪流感。samples(样本)为检测对象。

    • A. imparted
    • B. immersed
    • C. injected
    • D. infected

    答案D

解析“it has __ more than one million people”流感使百万人患病。infected(感染)为疾病传播的标准动词。

    • A. released
    • B. relayed
    • C. relieved
    • D. remained

    答案A

    解析“Federal health officials __ Tamiflu… from the national stockpile”从国家储备中发放达菲。released(发放、投放)贴切。

    • A. placing
    • B. delivering
    • C. taking
    • D. giving

    答案C

    解析官员“began __ orders from the states”开始接收各州订单。taking orders(接受订单)为固定商务搭配。

    • A. feasible
    • B. available
    • C. reliable
    • D. applicable

    答案B

解析“The new vaccine… is __ ahead of expectations”疫苗比预期更早可供使用。available(可获得的)与后文“doses were to be made available”呼应。

    • A. prevalent
    • B. principal
    • C. innovative
    • D. initial

    答案D

解析“most of those __ doses were of the FluMist…”

    • A. presented
    • B. restricted
    • C. recommended
    • D. introduced

    答案C

解析喷鼻疫苗“is not __ for pregnant women, people over 50…” recommended(推荐)与禁忌人群搭配。

    • A. problems
    • B. issues
    • C. agonies
    • D. sufferings

    答案A

解析“heart disease or several other __”心脏病或其他若干病症。problems(问题、疾患)可概括健康状况。

    • A. involved in
    • B. caring for
    • C. concerned with
    • D. warding off

    答案B
