1It’s no surprise that Jennifer Senior’s insightful, provocative magazine cover story, “I love My Children, I Hate My Life, ” is arousing much chatter – nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling, life-enriching experience.

主干主语:It;谓语:is;表语:no surprise;真正主语:that从句(cover story is arousing chatter)

结构形式主语It + that引导的主语从句;从句主语为magazine cover story(带双形容词定语及插入书名号同位语),谓语is arousing;破折号后为独立解释句,其中like后接the suggestion,再嵌套that引导的同位语从句说明suggestion内容,anything less than构成比较结构。

It is no surprise that…

2Rather than concluding that children make parents either happy or miserable, Senior suggests we need to redefine happiness: instead of thinking of it as something that can be measured by moment-to-moment joy, we should consider being happy as a past-tense condition.

主干主语:Senior;谓语:suggests;宾语:we need to redefine happiness

结构句首Rather than + 动名词短语作状语,内含that宾语从句;主句suggests后接省略that的宾语从句;冒号后instead of…与we should consider…构成对照,something后接that定语从句,being happy作consider的宾语。

考点Rather than + doing 置于句首作否定状语 · consider + 宾语 + as 结构,being happy为动名词宾语

3In a society that so persistently celebrates procreation, is it any wonder that admitting you regret having children is equivalent to admitting you support kitten- killing?

主干主语:it(形式主语);谓语:is;表语:any wonder;真正主语:that从句

结构介词短语In a society后接that定语从句修饰society;主句为修辞疑问句is it any wonder that…,that从句主语为动名词短语admitting you regret having children(内含省略that的宾语从句),谓语is equivalent to,后再接另一动名词短语。

考点is it any wonder that…

4Unhappy parents rarely are provoked to wonder if they shouldn’t have had kids, but unhappy childless folks are bothered with the message that children are the single most important thing in the world: obviously their misery must be a direct result of the gaping baby-size holes in their lives.

主干主语1:Unhappy parents;谓语:are provoked;主语2:unhappy childless folks;谓语:are bothered

结构并列复合句,but连接;前半if引导宾语从句(虚拟语气shouldn't have);后半with the message后接that同位语从句;冒号后独立分句解释,must be表推测,of短语修饰result。

考点be provoked to do / be bothered with 被动结构对比 · that引导同位语从句解释message

5But it’s interesting to wonder if the images we see every week of stress-free, happiness-enhancing parenthood aren’t in some small, subconscious way contributing to our own dissatisfactions with the actual experience, in the same way that a small part of us hoped getting “the Rachel” might make us look just a little bit like Jennifer Aniston.

主干主语:it;谓语:is;表语:interesting;真正主语:to wonder if…

结构形式主语it + to wonder,if引导宾语从句(否定前移aren't contributing);images后接省略关系代词的定语从句we see every week及of介词短语;in the same way that引导方式状语从句,内含hoped后接宾语从句(getting “the Rachel”作主语)。

考点if从句中否定前移 aren't contributing · in the same way that 引导比较/方式状语从句
